Friday 13th (July) might be considered unlucky by some but for two pupils at Rowdown Primary School it became a very lucky day indeed.  They were going to become "Pupils of the Year" and win a Lenovo tablet and a day out for them and all their family!

We held the 5th Rowdown Annual School Awards at the school, recognising great academic achievement and positive attitude and effort during the 2017/18 academic year.  The format was the same as in previous years with two categories: Academic Achievement and Attitude & Effort, with 4 nominations from each year group for each award (including Reception year for the first time although they had their own private awards presentation).  The nominations can be found here.  Each nominee received a certificate and a huge round of applause from the rest of the school when they walked into the main hall to take their place on the stage.

Rowdown old-boy and Foundation protege, Christopher Opoku, entertained us with a couple of catchy tunes on the piano, showing what great progress he is making.  He must have been quite warm in his Trinity school uniform!  And then new Head of School, Mr Taylor introduced the awards presentation and the dignitaries present: along with Christopher, old-boys Ubaydullaah Ajanaku (Whitgift) and Alfie Dixon (Wallington Boys); Gary Coy (Foundation Chair), Marion Burchell (Trustee), Gareth Burchell (old-boy, representing sponsors Shard Capital) and to present the awards, local MP, Sarah Jones.

And then the important bit got underway: awards were presented to the following winners in each category:

Congratulations to all these winners, and to everyone who was nominated.  It is a real feat to be on the list of nominees: we only wish everyone could win!

So, who were the lucky two on Friday 13th.  I am sure luck didn't come into it when Deanne Yung-Hoi was announced the Pupil of the Year 2017/18 for Academic Achievement and Abigail Streeter the Pupil of the Year 2017/18 for Attitude & Effort.  Unfortunately, Abigail was off sick (perhaps she was a little unlucky then) but here is the very pleased Deanne receiving her Year winner trophy from Sarah Jones MP.

A few more photos are included below with more to follow in due course...

It was a great afternoon: the sun was shining on Rowdown on Friday 13th July!
