30th November 2017: Further Expansion of the Tuition Programme

As you will recall, we were honoured back in April when Trinity opened its doors on a Saturday morning to 15 Year 5 pupils from four New Addington primary schools for additional lessons in Maths and English, providing additional challenge to these brightest of children and helping to prepare them for the grammar school exams in September and the upcoming 11+ entrance exams for independent schools such as Trinity.

We are so pleased to be able to tell you that Trinity have offered to host a new set of Year 5 pupils for these Extension Lessons starting in January for the whole of 2018.  The same four schools (Applegarth, Castle Hill, Fairchildes and, of course, Rowdown) have snapped up this opportunity and between them nominated 19 extremely able pupils to take advantage of Trinity’s generosity.  These lessons are provided by Trinity free of charge to parents, the primary schools and the Foundation, and we can’t say thank you enough.

In addition, we are also pleased to announce that Trinity has been joined by Royal Russell School, who will be offering “Masterclasses” in Maths and English to a similar number of Year 4 pupils from the same primary schools.  These will happen on a weekday afternoon/evening throughout 2018.  17 pupils and their parents have enrolled and the vast majority of them came along to a short presentation this afternoon at Royal Russell where we explained the aims of the Tuition Programme and the Masterclasses and the school even gave them a quick lesson in each subject to provide a flavour of what they have signed up for.  The enthusiasm from parents and pupils alike was outstanding and makes all the hard work in organising the Programme worthwhile.

Our thanks go out to Royal Russell and Trinity Schools for their continued support of the Foundation’s aims towards providing greater social mobility in education for children from New Addington.
